Bio based 3D resins

3Dresyns bio-based 3D resins have been designed for environmentally friendly 3D printing with ultra high bio-based carbon content (bio content) of up to 85-90% (ISO *) from renewable resources, such as soya, corn, bamboo, pea, psyllium, oligosaccharides, inulin, algae, and other nut, bean, plant (non animal), bio-based renewable raw materials.
Our SLA DLP & LCD 3D resins are more eco-friendly than conventional synthetic plastics, which take thousands of years to fully decompose. Despite being eco friendly not all bio based 3D resins are compostable since they are typically printed at high thickness.
Some of our bio-based 3D resins with even 85-90% Bio content have been designed to be durable despite their degradation speed is much faster than petrochemical plastics.
Others, such as 3Dresyns BioDeg Corn, besides having 85% Bio content (ISO *) are biodegradable and compostable.

*Note: With the ISO standard the biobased carbon content can be reported either as a fraction of the  Total Organic Carbon TOC or as the Total Carbon TC, while with the EN standard the biobased carbon content (bio content) is reported as a fraction of the TC. 3Dresyns bio content is reported as as a fraction of the TC.

Compostable Resins

What is compostable resin made of?

Compostable resin is a type of bioplastic made from renewable, natural materials such as corn starch, potato starch, sugarcane, or cellulose derived from wood or agricultural waste. These materials are broken down into a pulp or powder form and then combined with other ingredients such as vegetable oils, resins, and waxes to create a plastic-like material that can be molded into various shapes.

Compostable resins are designed to break down quickly and completely when composted under specific conditions, typically within 180 days. They are also designed to be free of harmful toxins and to have a lower carbon footprint than traditional petroleum-based plastics. Compostable resins are commonly used in food packaging, utensils, bags, and other disposable products as a more sustainable alternative to conventional plastics.

An important market for compostable resins is flexible packaging. Tote bags made from compostable resins are the perfect alternative to lightweight non-biodegradable plastic bags because they offer all the benefits of conventional bags with the added benefit of biodegradability and compostability. Applications for these tote bags range from grocery plastic bags and plastic film to food packaging. They are also the ideal solution for organic waste collection bags as they can be recycled organically into fertile compost.

Food Service

Disposable Plastic Products

Foodservice bioplastic products (plates, cutlery, hot and cold beverage cups, straws, sand mixers) made from compostable resins are 100% biodegradable and compostable.

Compostable resins are also used in a variety of packaging applications for fresh and dried foods and non-food products, including bags, pouches, sealing and cling film, and ribbed cans, trays and lids. These resins provide consumers with a solution for all food-contact disposable tableware and plastic packaging that can be collected in a bin for organic recycling rather than sent to a landfill or incinerated. Once disposed of in a composting facility, the plastics decompose in the compost due to the action of microorganisms.

Agriculture

Mulch

Compostable resin mulch is a better alternative to traditional mulch. It is more efficient in environmental and agronomic terms while maintaining its mechanical properties and use characteristics. It is used for the same purposes as conventional mulch, with the added advantage of its compostable properties (an attractive feature), making our compostable resin the best alternative for such applications. It eliminates all plastic waste and the need to dispose of it. Certified biodegradable, it is converted to organic matter under natural conditions and used as an agent and nutrient for future crops.
